‘MALAYSIAN FAMILY DAY’ IN PARIS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CELEBRATION OF THE BIRTHDAY OF DYMM SPB YANG DI PERTUAN AGONG ON 6 JUNE 2009

It was another day of fun and unity for Malaysians in France at the ‘Family Day” gathering held on Saturday, 6 June 2009 at the Moulin Sports Centre in Gif-sur-Yvette in the suburb of Paris.

The event, held on the occasion of the birthday of DYMM SPB Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was organised by the Embassy of Malaysia in collaboration with the Perwakilan and the Malaysian Association in France (MAF). About 150 guests comprising staff of the Embassy; Malaysian agencies; Malaysian Association in France (MAF) members; fellow Malaysians and their families as well as Malaysian students studying in and around Paris attended the event.

The event, officiated by H.E. Dato’ S. Thanarajasingam, Ambassador of Malaysia to France and Portugal, kicked off with the singing of the national anthem, “Negara Ku” and two otherpatriotic songs namely “Jalur Gemilang” and “Wawasan 2020”.

In his speech, H.E. Dato’ S. Thanarajasingam informed Malaysians on the One Malaysia (1Malaysia) concept, espoused by the new Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, that calls for mutual respect, trust and understanding among the different races in Malaysia. The Government under the leadership of YAB Prime Minister had also announced measures to mitigate the effects of the global  economic crisis  such as the second economic stimulus package, he added. His Excellency further called on all Malaysians to continue to be good citizens of integrity, industry and promoting friendship among people as well as with the French. (The text of His Excellency’s speech is as attached).

It was a truly family affair at the event as the participants with their family members participated in the various outdoor activities. The variety of games for children as well as adults produced acacophony of squeals and giggles among the children, parents and friends.

A barbeque of Malaysia’s traditional ‘satay’ and other Malaysian delicacies were generously prepared by the Ladies Association (Perwakilan) and were distributed tothe joy of everyone present.

The event ended on a high note reaching its objective to not only foster and enhance stronger relationship and solidarity among Malaysians but also to instil positive family values and healthy living.
